College Football Schedule, Week 7: Virginia Tech Faces Wake Forest In ACC Showdown

A look over the five ACC games on the slate for Saturday.

Miami 2-3 (0-2) at UNC 5-1 (1-1): The 'Canes and the Tar Heels square off in Chapel Hill with both teams' Coastal Division hopes at stake. For Miami, one more loss would all but seal their chances of contending for an ACC title. Only one team (Virginia Tech, 2008) sported a three-loss conference record on its way to the championship game since the conference's expansion in 2004. For UNC, this is an opportunity to show the voters how angry the Tar Heels and their fan base are over not being ranked at 5-1 (1-1). Also with another loss, UNC would be fighting an uphill battle to make it to Charlotte. (12:30, ESPN3) For more on Miami, visit The 7th Floor blog. For more on UNC, visit Carolina March.

Florida State 2-3 (0-2) at Duke 3-2 (1-0): Who would have thought that when the Seminoles enter the confines of Wallace Wade Stadium Saturday afternoon, that it would in fact be the Blue Devils that sport the better record and higher footing in the conference? A loss for the 'Noles would devastate any remaining chances at the ACC crown and constitute a nightmare season. A loss for Duke would bring the Blue Devils back down to earth. (3 p.m., ESPN3) For more on Florida State, visit Tomahawk Nation.

No. 12 Georgia Tech 6-0 (3-0) at Virginia 3-2 (0-1): The Yellow Jackets storm into Charlottesville, riding high after holding on to win against Maryland last week. The Cavaliers will have a chance to do what nobody else has done to this point: beat the Yellow Jackets. Georgia Tech still maintains the lead in the Coastal Division, and needs to keep it with games against Virginia Tech and Clemson remaining. If they're going to go to the ACC title game, they can ill-afford a loss to Virginia. (3:30 p.m. ESPNU) For more on Georgia Tech, visit From the Rumble Seat and SB Nation Atlanta. No. 19 Virginia Tech 5-1 (1-1) at Wake Forest 4-1 (3-0): Wake Forest will look to continue their early season Cinderella story against the ACC elite when the Hokies come to town, but that didn't bother them last week when they knocked off the 'Noles. A big factor in this one: the status of Wake RB Josh Harris. Last year as a freshman, Harris ran for 241 yards against the Hokies (albeit in a Hokies blowout). No. 8 Clemson 6-0 (3-0) at Maryland 2-3 (1-1): There are two main story lines surrounding this one: will Clemson QB Tajh Boyd be able to go/play well on his injured hip? And who will Maryland start at QB? The answers to these questions will determine the game. (ESPNU 7 p.m.) For more on Clemson, visit Shakin In The Southland. For more on Maryland, visit Testudo Times.
