Navy Vs. Rutgers: Midshipmen Lose Another Tight Contest, Fall 21-20 To Scarlet Knights

The Navy Midshipmen (2-4) blew a ten point third quarter lead on their way to a 21-20 loss to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights (5-1) Saturday afternoon at High Points Solution Stadium in Piscataway, NJ. The loss was Navy's fourth straight, and second in the last three weeks by just one point. This is the Midshipmen's longest losing streak since 2002.

Navy's fate was sealed when kicker Jon Teague had his 34-yard field goal attempt blocked with just under five minutes left in the game. Brandon Jones of Rutgers was untouched on the play, and had no problem getting his hands on Teague's kick attempt.

The top rushing team in the land, Navy was held to 162 yards rushing, over two hundred yards below their average of 366 yards on the ground per game this season.

Rutgers skills position players had a good day, as receiver Mohamed Sanu caught ten balls for 100 yards, running back Jawan Jamison had 101 yards rushing on 22 carries with a touchdown and quarterback Gary Nova threw for 271 yards and two scores.

Navy next faces the East Carolina Pirates next Saturday, 3:30 p.m. at Navy Memorial Stadium in Annapolis.
