College Football Schedule, Week 7: Clemson Vs. Maryland Highlighted ACC Late Games

Early ACC action in Week 7 saw a shocking upset, as a middling Virginia Cavaliers team defeated previously undefeated Georgia Tech 24-21. Could Maryland match Virginia and pull the upset against an undefeated Clemson team? Would Wake Forest remain perfect in conference play after taking on Virginia Tech? The Week 7 ACC late game results:

No. 19 Virginia Tech 38, Wake Forest 17: Just over eight minutes into the game, it looked like the Demon Deacons (4-2, 3-1) might continue their improbable undefeated run to start conference play, as they led the Hokies 10-0, having outgained Virgina Tech 122-2 up to that point. From that point on, however, it became the Logan Thomas show, as the Hokies (6-1, 2-1) cruised to a 21 point win behind two passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns from their quarterback. Virginia Tech has not lost to Wake Forest since 1983.

No. 8 Clemson 56, Maryland 45: The most exciting game of the day was played in College Park Maryland Saturday night, but sadly for the home fans, an 18 point lead in the third quarter would not hold up against the explosive Tigers offense. Tajh Boyd returned from a hip injury to throw four touchdown passes, and uber freshman Sammy Watkins scored three touchdowns while amassing a school record 345 all-purpose yards. Despite the defeat, it appears the Terrapins have  found their answer at quarterback. Sophomore C.J. Brown ran 22 times for 162 yards and a touchdown and also threw three scoring passes in his first collegiate start.
