To the surprise of no one, Les Miles and his LSU Tigers are the top ranked team in the first Bowl Championship Series rankings of the college football season. Conference foe Alabama is ranked second, with Oklahoma and Oklahoma State taking the thrid and fourth positions, respectively.
The Cowboys, to the surprise of some, are ranked ahead of undefeated Boise State, Wisconsin and Stanford. The highest ranked ACC team in the BCS rankings is the Clemson Tigers, fresh off their roller coaster 56-45 victory over the Maryland Terrapins Saturday night in College Park. Virginia Tech joins Clemson in the rankings at 12th, and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets round out the ACC contingent, ranked 23rd after their shocking loss to Virginia.
