The Washington Capitals get just one game on the opening weekend of the 2011 NHL season. The Caps open with the Carolina Hurricanes at home, Saturday, October 8 at 7:00 PM EST and will be shown live on CSN-DC. After that, the Caps play once again at home against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday night before traveling to Pittsburgh to take on the Pittsburgh Penguins.

While some teams open up with three or four games over a five to six day stretch, the Caps get a nicely spaced out start to their 2011 season.
