TV Schedule, October 8: Maryland Vs. Georgia Tech, Hurricanes Vs. Capitals

It's a beautiful Fall day here in the nation's capital, and what better way to celebrate than sitting on your couch watching college football and the Washington Capitals season opener. When and where to watch:

Maryland Terrapins vs. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets: Maryland (2-2, 1-0 ACC) is in for an extremely tough test against the undefeated Yellow Jackets (5-0, 2-0 ACC). Georgia Tech ranks second in  the FBS in both points per game (51.6) and total offense (587.0 yards per game). Their rushing attack is the best in the nation, averaging almost 380 yards a game, with 24 touchdowns already scored on the ground. Danny O'Brien and the Terrapins offense will need to put a lot of points on the board if they want to have any chance against the Yellow Jackets. With an upset victory, Maryland would start conference play 2-0 for the first time since 2001. SportsGuy buddy Rob Stone and former NFL journeyman quarterback Danny Kanell have the call.  (ESPNU, 12:00 P.M.)

Carolina Hurricanes vs. Washington Capitals: Another season of high expectations begins for the Capitals Saturday night at the Verizon Center. Washington has won four straight Southeast Division titles, but has been bounced by a lower seed in the playoffs each of the last four years. Superstar Alex Ovechkin has returned for the opener after being in Moscow this week due to a death in his family. Washington coach Bruce Boudreau has chosen to start Michal Neuvirth in goal over offseason acquisition Tomas Vokoun, a rather surprising development that needs to be monitored in the season's first few weeks.
