Ducks Vs. Capitals: John Erskine's Return, Mike Green Skating Before Practice Highlight Tuesday's Morning Skate

BALLSTON, Va. - The Washington Capitals prepared for Tuesday night's game against the Anaheim Ducks Tuesday morning at Kettler Capitals Iceplex. A few newsworthy notes:

  • Defenseman Mike Green skated before practice, according to WTOP's Ben Raby. Green took the ice about 30 minutes before Tuesday's morning skate sans equipment, Green has now missed eight consecutive practices and two games since twisting his right ankle last Saturday against the Detroit Red Wings.
  • The Caps recalled forward Cody Eakin from AHL Hershey Tuesday and he participated in the morning skate. Eakin has three goals and five assists in 10 games for the Bears this season. With D.J. King on the waiver wive until 12 noon Tuesday, perhaps Eakin's recall is to give the Caps an extra forward to carry as they have been all season.
  • While the Caps recalled Eakin, they assigned defenseman Sean Collins to AHL Hershey. Collins appeared in two games for the Caps on their road trip to Edmonton and Vancouver last week.
  • Without Collins and Green, only six defensemen skated Tuesday morning: Karl Alzner, John Carlson, Jeff Schultz, Dennis Wideman, Roman Hamrlik and John Erskine. Erskine confirmed after leaving the ice that he has been officially cleared to return after recovering from offseason shoulder surgery and he will likely make his season debut Tuesday.

More to come after practice.
