The Washington Capitals are coming off their worst loss of the season, a game where they were outplayed by the Dallas Stars for two periods and dominated in the final period. As a result, Bruce Boudreau put his club through its most grueling practice of the season this week. The Caps will look to rebound against the New Jersey Devils, who they will play back-to-back this weekend in a home-and-home series. The weekend kicks off in New Jersey, with the Devils visiting the the Verizon Center on Saturday night. Both games will also be televised nationally on NHL Network.
The status of Devils star left winger, Ilya Kovalchuk, is still up in the air for Friday's game. Kovalchuk skated on Thursday but did not practice with the team. His absence, however, has not held the Devils back as New Jersey enters the weekend on a two game winning streak, putting them at 7-5-1 in this first month of the season. The Caps, on the other hand, enter with a two game losing streak, having taking accountability for the poor play and looking to end their most frustrating stretch of this young season.
