The Washington Capitals scored two goals in the third period during Friday's 3-1 win over the New Jersey Devils. Saturday, they picked up where they left off.
Troy Brouwer and Jason Chimera's goals have given the Caps a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes.
Brouwer gave the Caps just their sixth 1-0 lead of the season at 6:30. As Brouwer pressured Adam Henrique, he got his stick in the passing line and picked off Henrique's pass attempt to Anton Volchenkov. With a step on the defense, Brouwer had plenty of time to deke and put the puck over a sprawling Johan Hedberg for his fourth goal of the season.
Chimera added to the lead at 16:10 as Anton Volchenkov's penalty was expiring. John Carlson took a cross-ice feed from Marcus Johansson and his slap shot from the right point was deflected past Hedberg by Chimera. It was Chimera's sixth goal of the season.
Michal Neuvirth stopped all Devils shots, while Hedberg made seven saves on nine shots.
