Capitals Vs. Jets: Jets Fly Away From Caps With Three-Goal Outburst, Lead 4-1

During the second period, the Winnipeg Jets took off and left the Washington Capitals behind.

Winnipeg's three goals within a four-minute span have given the Jets a 4-1 lead after 40 minutes.

Evander Kane scored his second goal of the game at 6:38 when he took advantage of another Washington turnover and sent another wrist shot past Michal Neuvirth.

Later in the period, the Caps had a great opportunity to tie the game, but it was the Jets who ultimately took advantage. Jeff Halpern and Brooks Laich found themselves on a 2-on-0 shorthanded breakaway off a Jets turnover. Halpern fed Laich, but Laich missed. The loose puck then found its way to Blake Wheeler, who corralled the puck, cut towards the net and beat Neuvirth in tight for his first goal of the season at 8:31.

Just over two minutes later, Kyle Wellwood added to the Jets' lead with his sixth goal of the season when he picked up a loose puck in the crease and put it past a sprawling Neuvirth.

Washington actually had 15 shots to Winnipeg's 13 in the period, but have no goals to show for it and limited time to make a comeback.
