The Navy Midshipmen are coming off back to back wins after snapping a long losing streak and travel cross country to take on San Jose State. Navy got the football first, but didn't do much with their initial possession. The Mids went just five plays for a total of 8 yards and punted the football.
The punt traveled just 25 yards however, giving San Jose State good field position, made even better by a 22-yard rush from Brandon Rutley on the second play. A few plays later the Spartans drive stalled, but they were in position to attempt a field goal, which Jens Alvernik drilled through the uprights to go up 3-0 on the 44-yard field goal.
The Mids next drive was a quick three-and-out, giving the football right back to San Jose State who took the football right down the football field. Quarterback Matt Faulkner connected on some long throws to get the Spartans down the field, leading the team to an eventual 3-yard rushing touchdown by Rutley to put the Spartans up 10-0 in the first quarter.
