Games between the Washington Capitals and New York Rangers are routinely tight, defensive games. Friday's first period was no different as the Caps and Rangers are tied at 0-0 after 20 minutes.
The Caps had the best chance of the period early on. Cody Eakin shrugged off a check and rushed down the left boards, setting up a 2-on-1 with Joel Ward. Eakin fed Ward with a perfect pass through the slot, but Lundqvist slid over in time andmade the save. Ward leads the Caps with three shots on goal.
Lundqvist and Michal Neuvirth each made eight saves. Both teams have had their chances; the Rangers are 0-for-3 on the power play, while the Caps are 0-for-2.
