Capitals Vs. Sabres: Mistakes Cost Caps, Trail Sabres 2-0

If a player from one team could assist on a goal for the other team, Dennis Wideman would have a primary assist.

Wideman's turnover and Tomas Vokoun's misplayed puck have the Washington Capitals in a 2-0 hole at the end of the first period against the Buffalo Sabres.

Luke Adam took advantage of Wideman's turnover and scored his seventh goal of the season at 10:47. Buffalo's forecheck had Washington pinned down in their zone. Wideman got the puck behind the net and attempted to clear, but his pass came right to Adam in the slot. With no one else around, Adam had time to fire a slap shot past Vokoun.

About five minutes later, it looked as though Vokoun saved Thomas Vanek's shot from the point, but he bobbled the puck and couldn't close his glove on it. Unfortunately for Vokoun, Jason Pominville was in the crease to put the loose puck in the net for his ninth goal of the season.

The Sabres outshot the Caps 12-7.
