After losing 6-3 to the New York Rangers Friday, the Washington Capitals hoped that a quick turnaround Saturday would turn things around. Yet, things continued to spin out of control after a 5-1 loss to the Buffalo Sabres.
Luke Adam scored twice, while Zack Kassian, Jason Pominville and Jochen Hecht also scored. Jason Chimera's penalty shot was the only goal Washington scored Saturday.
Chimera's goal actually cut the Sabres' lead to 2-1, but less than 30 seconds later, Kassian's first NHL goal restored Buffalo's lead to 3-1. Two goals in the third sealed the victory for the Sabres.
A two-game win streak earlier this week gave way to two losses in as many days for the Caps. Washington, after starting the season 7-0-0, have lost 10 of 15.
Next week, the Caps will have another three-game homestand. It begins Tuesday against the surging St. Louis Blues before facing the rival Pittsburgh Penguins Thursday.
