ACC Championship Game 2011: Frank Beamer Has History Of Winning Rematches In Conference Title Game

There's little question who the favorite is in this year's ACC Conference Championship Game. Virginia Tech enters the game having won seven consecutive games since losing to Clemson in early October. The Tigers meanwhile are coming off a disappointing performance against South Carolina last week, and a head-scratching defeat at the hands of North Carolina State two weekends ago.

When the Hokies rematch the Tigers this . Virginia Tech has enjoyed great quarterback play from Logan Thomas down the stretch.  The sophomore has 23 touchdowns (14 passing and nine rushing) and just two interceptions during the team's winning streak. He'll need to play much better than he did against the Tigers in their October 1st matchup when he completed just 15-of-27 passes for 125 yards and 1 INT.

The good news for Hokies fans is that head coach Frank Beamer is no stranger to the ACC title game, and he has am excellent track record of winning the rematch over an opponent who won the regular season meeting. In fact, Beamer has never lost in such situations. He's 3-0. Last season, the Hokies knocked off Florida State 44-33 in the title game; in 2008, VA Tech knocked off Boston College easily; and the year before in 2007, Beamer's bunch also dashed BC's BCS aspirations with a 30-16 win in the rematch.

Clemson will try to put their recent slump behind them and achieve some very big goals for the year with a win on Saturday. One more victory gives the Tigers 10 wins for the first time since 1990, and beating VA Tech would send the school to its first bowl game in the current BCS rotation since its national championship team that beat Nebraska in the 1981 Orange Bowl.
