Capitals Vs. Islanders: New York Ties Game At 2-2 After 40 Minutes

For the New York Islanders, the second time was the charm.

Frans Neilsen and Brian Rolston scored in the second period to bring the Islanders back to a 2-2 tie wit the Washington Capitals.

Neilsen scored his third goal of the season early in the period when he followed his own shot and used a backhand to put the rebound through Tomas Vokoun's legs to cut the Caps' lead in half at 2-1 at 1:41.

Rolston's first goal of the season tied the game at 2-2 when Neilsen sent a cross-ice pass along the blueline to Rolston, whose patented slap shot beat Vokoun five-hole at 16:55.

The Islanders dominated the flow of the second period and held a 15-7 shot advantage over the Caps.
