University of Maryland-Baltimore County, University of Maryland-Eastern Shore Fall In Late Saturday Games

The University of Maryland-Baltimore County welcomed fellow one win team Rider to the Retriever Activities Center on Saturday evening, and despite a valiant comeback, UMBC fell to 1-9 on the season in a 73-66 overtime loss to the Broncs. Rider improved to 2-10 on the year, snapping a six-game losing streak.

Rider led the Retrievers by 14 points with seven minutes to play, but UMBC fought back, finally forcing overtime on two Brian Neller free throws with five seconds left in the game. UMBC was paced by Chase Plummer, who scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Neller chipped in 19 points.

The University of Maryland-Eastern Shore traveled west Saturday to face the Air Force Falcons in Colorado Springs, and almost caught Air Force looking ahead to their upcoming matchup with Gonzaga. Despite trailing by ten at the half, UMES hung around, and with just 2:08 left in the game the Hawks had tied the Falcons (6-2).

Unfortunately, it was at that point that Air Force's all-time leading scorer, Michael Lyons, took over, scoring the final four points of the contest in the game's final 14.6 seconds.

UMES (3-9) was led in defeat by guard Percy Woods' 14 points and a strong game from big man Pina Guillaume, who had 12 points, 11 rebounds and a steal.
