American Vs. Villanova: Eagles Fall By 21 On The Road Against Wildcats

The American University Eagles went to Philadelphia looking to upset Villanova, but the Wildcats were simply too much in the second half.

The American University Eagles went on the road to Philadelphia looking to upset a Big East foe in the Villanova Wildcats. The Eagles were within striking distance, cutting a nine point 'Nova halftime lead to five early in the second. But the Wildcats were simply too much as they raced out to a comfortable to double digit lead after the under 16 timeout and closed out the Eagles.

The Eagles were playing without their second leading scorer, Troy Brewer, who was out for the second straight game with turf toe. Charles Hinkle, who's among the top ten scorers in the country at 21.7 points per game, chipped in with 17 points for AU. But Brewer's replacement, Blake Jolivette, led the Eagles with a career-high 19 points. Getting his chance filling in for Brewer, Jolivette didn't pass on many chances getting up 18 attempts from the floor and hitting three from from behind the arc.

But Hinkle and Jolivette had little help, as the Eagles shot just 34.5% from the floor. It was AU's third straight loss. They will look to bounce back against Mount St. Mary's next Thursday after enjoying the holiday week off.
