Georgia Southern Vs. Old Dominion, FCS Playoffs 2011 Second Round Preview: Two High Powered Offenses Face Off As Monarchs Look To Advance

One week after the first playoff win in school history, Old Dominion travels to Georgia Southern looking for their eighth win in the last nine games. A win over the number three seeded Eagles will put the Monarchs in the quarterfinals.

Just three years after starting their program, and one week after winning their first FCS playoff game, the Old Dominion Monarchs head to Statesboro, Georgia to face the number three seeded Georgia Southern Eagles. The Eagles enjoyed a bye last week, while ODU battled cross-town rival Norfolk State. It's unlikely the Monarchs will present quite the challenge of Georgia Southern's last opponent, as they finished their season at Alabama.

But ODU is certainly capable of going on the road and advancing to the quarterfinals. Georgia Southern has enjoyed a great deal of success in the FCS tournament, and they start this year's playoffs with an offense that averages over 35 points a game. Most of their points, however, come via the run as they boast the nation's second best rushing attack - gashing their opponents for a 9-2 record.

Bobby Wilder's high-powered Monarchs attack will undoubtedly try to go score-for-score with the Eagles. The result should be a high scoring, entertaining game, with kickoff scheduled for 1:00 PM on ESPN3.
