One of the more interesting subplots of the Amir Khan vs. Lamont Peterson title fight in D.C. this Saturday is that Peterson, the challenger, is from D.C. originally and will have a lot of family and friends in attendance. According to Scott Christ of SB Nation's Bad Left Hook, Khan has no problem fighting in Peterson's backyard.
"One thing about me is I don’t mind travelling and going into people’s backyards to fight. I’ve done it a few times before and I’ve recently been fighting a lot outside of the UK.
"For me, a boxing ring is a boxing ring, no matter where it is. I’ll perform there the way I have to. If you look at my career I train in America, not the UK, so in a way that helps me to perform well away from my home country.
"So no matter where it is, I’ll perform in that ring."
Everybody loves an underdog, but everyone really loves an underdog who was born and raised in the City were the fight is being held. It will be interesting to see just how much the crowd is behind the challenger.
