NCAA Basketball Rankings: Georgetown Rises To No. 9, George Mason Knocking On The Door

The big news about this week's NCAA Basketball rankings is that there is a new number one team in the AP Top 25 poll. Kansas has overtaken Ohio State for the No. 1 spot in the rankings after the Buckeyes' loss to Wisconsin on Saturday. Locally, though, the big news is that Georgetown has risen into the top 10 and George Mason continues to knock on the door.

Fueled by the strength of wins over Syracuse and Marquette, Georgetown has risen to No. 9 in the rankings, breaking the top 10 for the first time since December. The Hoyas leapfrogged Villanova, which fell from No. 9 to No. 15 after a loss to Pittsburgh on Saturday night. They still trail No. 4 Pittsburgh and No. 8 Notre Dame among Big East schools.

Meanwhile, George Mason continues to knock on the door after its 11th straight win on Saturday. The Patriots are ranked No. 30 this week, receiving 28 votes for the Top 25, nine more than they received last week. If they are able to beat Virginia Commonwealth on Tuesday, they could get up into the Top 25.

Here are the complete rankings.
