2011 NFL Combine: Mike Shanahan Says Redskins Need A Pass Rusher

Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan addressed the media at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis following a day of scouting prospects. During his address, Shanahan, in a mild surprise, says that he feels one of the team's top priorities is a pass rusher opposite Brian Orakpo.

Via Rich Campbell of the Fredericksburg Free-Lance Star.

Shanahan: A pass rusher opposite Orakpo ranks as a top priority.

Shanahan mentioned this before the quarterback position, which is probably music to the ears of many Redskins fans. Granted, the Redskins have a lot of needs, and some may argue that a dominant nose tackle or an elite offensive lineman is a bigger one, but it's refreshing to see that Shanahan seemingly believes that quarterback is not the priority.

He did, however, discuss Cam Newton later in the address. Via Campbell again:

Shanahan on Cam Newton: He does everything you want as a quarterback. Very talented. Shanahan said the key for Newton is the background check.
