The DeMatha Stags defeated the Gonzaga Eagles 51-48 to win the WCAC Championship, giving them their third consecutive championship.
DeMatha opened a 10-point lead at halftime, 27-17, but Gonzaga would cut it to eight after three quarters. By the midway point of the fourth quarter, Gonzaga cut the lead to three at 43-40. With 10 seconds left, DeMatha had a 51-48 lead and had the ball, but turned it over on the inbounds play. Gonzaga's DJ Fenner would miss the potential tying three-pointer and would get one more chance after forcing a jump ball. One last desperation three would not fall as the Stag would go on to win.
DeMatha star Kris Jenkins, who suffered a sprained ankle in a recent game, sat out of the entire first half and attempted to play in the second half. Yet, Jenkins couldn't put pressure on his ankle and returned to the bench shortly after.
