VIDEO: Matt Howard's Buzzer Beater To Beat Old Dominion In NCAA Tournament

What a start to March Madness at the Verizon Center. Butler and Old Dominion played a really great game in the first round of the 2011 NCAA Tournament, and it's only fitting it ended like this, with Matt Howard's buzzer-beating layup.

It's fitting that the game ended on what was essentially a fluke play. The ball was batted in the air, and it just so happened to come down in Howard's hands right underneath the basket. The two teams played such an even game that only luck would determine the winner. Unfortunately for Old Dominion, luck smiled on Butler this time.

Old Dominion does have to be kicking itself for all the layups it missed over the course of the game, though. At one point, Frank Hassell had a dunk, but chose to lay it up instead and it spilled off the front of the rim. If that shot goes in, Howard's basket doesn't win the game.
