Atlantic 10 champion Richmond looks to keep its hot streak alive against fellow upstart Morehead State in the (technically) third round of the NCAA Tournament, tipping off against the Eagles at 5:15 EDT from Denver. The Spiders topped 5th-seeded Vanderbilt, 69-66, behind Kevin Anderson's 25 points, while Morehead State surprised Louisville, the Southwest Region's 4th seed, 62-61. Demonte Harper hit a clutch triple with 4.2 seconds left to lift the Eagles to the win. Terrance Hill hit five of six three-pointers on his way to a game-high 23 points for Morehead.
Richmond has won eight consecutive games, moving to 28-7 on the year with their win over Vandy. The victory was the Spiders' first NCAA Tournament scratch since a 1998 win over South Carolina.
Morehead State is seeking to be only the second 13 seed to beat a 12 to reach the Sweet Sixteen. Kenneth Faried, the NCAA's all-time leading rebounder, grabbed 17 boards in the win over Louisville, despite an unusually poor offensive showing. Faried made only 4 of 17 shots to score 12 points. Today's matchup marks only the ninth time in Tournament history that a 12 and 13 have met in the Round of 32.
