Might we be seeing the first upset of a No. 1 seed in the 2011 NCAA Tournament? Maybe. No. 8 Butler has a 38-30 lead on No. 1 Ptitsburgh at halftime of a game in Washington D.C. involving two teams in the Southeast Region of the NCAA bracket.
The Bulldogs led 30-18 at one point, and then closed the half on an 8-1 run after Pittsburgh scored 11 straight to cut the lead down to one point. Shelvin Mack is on fire for Butler, shooting 6-10 from the field and 4-7 from three-point range for 16 points. Matt Howard added eight points for Butler, who is shooting 8-16 from behind the three-point line.
Ashton Gibbs and Gilbert Brown countered with nine points apiece for the Panthers, but Pittsburgh isn't a team who performs well from behind. The Panthers really need to step up the defense if they want to defeat a tough, experienced Butler team.
