Patriot League Tournament: American Defeats Colgate In Quarterfinals,

The 2011 Patriot League Tournament is underway, and D.C.'s own American U. Eagles are representing the city well so far. Led by Vlad Moldoveanu, the Eagles defeated the Colgate Red Raiders 69-53. Moldoveanu, the senior forward from Bucharest, scored 31 points and grabbed six rebounds tonight to lead the Eagles to victory. Junior forward Stephen Lumpkins also contributed 19 points and 15 rebounds in the win.

The Eagles seem to be destined for a date with the Bucknell Bison in the Final round of the Patriot League Tournament. The Bison rolled over the Army Black Knights by a score of 78-51, and will take on the Lehigh Mountain Hawks in the next round. Lehigh defeated the Navy Midshipmen 87-75 tonight.

The Tournament will resume on Sunday with the Eagles facing the Lafayette Leopards, who pulled off a minor upset in defeating the Holy Cross Crusaders 77-70. American won the Patriot League Tournament in 2008 and 2009, and will earn a trip to the NCAA Tournament with a win in the Final.
