When you think of the best college basketball areas in the country, you usually think of such historically relevant places as Tobacco Road in North Carolina, the Lexington-Louisville region in Kentucky, and southern California. Heck, even Washington, D.C., now has a solid college basketball tradition with Maryland, Georgetown and George Mason.
↵Well we've got a new city to add to the list of the greatest college basketball cities in the country.
↵Richmond, Va.
↵The state capitol of Virginia is sending two colleges to the Sweet Sixteen in the 2011 NCAA Tournament. The Richmond Spiders made that leap on Saturday by defeating fellow Cinderalla hopeful Morehead State, two days after upsetting the Vanderbilt Commodores. The VCU Rams also helped represent the Richmond area by reaching the Sweet Sixteen with surprisingly lopsided victories over the USC Trojans, Georgetown Hoyas and the Purdue Boilermakers.
↵So now when you begin naming the best college basketball cities in the U.S., don't forget about Richmond.
