VCU Coach Shaka Smart Praises VCU Fans, Puts Down Kansas Fans

Kansas is one of the most recognizable basketball programs in the Nation, while the city of Richmond only has about 200,000 residents. You would think that when Kansas met VCU in the Elite Eight in San Antonio, the Jayhawks would have the advantage in terms of fan support. But if you asked VCU coach Shaka Smart, that wasn't the case.

In the Richmond Times Dispatch, Smart lauded the efforts of Rams Nation while taking a little bit of a jab at the Jayhawks faithful.

Coach Shaka Smart praised the VCU fans who attended Sunday's game in San Antonio. "Kansas had more (fans), but ours were louder and better. We shut the Kansas fans up real quickly, didn't we?"

To be fair, it's easy to be vocal when your team is up double digits the whole time. But still, let's give the credit to the Rams for taking the Jayhawks fans out of this one early and refusing to let them become a factor late. We'll see what kind of following accompanies the Rams to the 2011 Final Four in Houston.
