The Ukrop's 10k race in Richmond, Virginia will take place on Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m., as nearly 40,000 participants will take part in the competition. The event, named one of the best running races in the country by USA Today last year, features a scenic run that begins in waves and lasts all day. Runners go on the course while getting support from the Spirit Group along the medians. Racers who plan on finishing in under 43 minutes will begin at 8:30, with the slower runners going thereafter.
The race begins and ends at the campus of VCU, so event organizers are asking fans and participants to do their part and root on the VCU Rams as the play in the 2011 Final Four. The goal is for everyone involved to engage in a pep rally after the race. Runners are encouraged to wear black and gold when they race, and cheat sheets via the Richmond Times-Dispatch will be distributed.
