Mike Knuble Signs One-Year Contract Extension With Washington Capitalsf

Fresh off yet another 20-goal season, Mike Knuble will remain a part of the Washington Capitals for at least one more year. The 38-year old winger has signed a one-year contract extension that will keep him in D.C. for the 2011/12 season, according to Mike Vogel of WashingtonCapitals.com. The team has made the deal official, though it did not disclose the financial details.

Knuble has been a steady presence for the Capitals in each of the last two years, and after a slow start, Knuble ended the 2010/11 season with 24 goals and 16 assists in 79 games. His resurgence at the end of the season was one of the key reasons the Capitals have gone 15-3-1 since the NHL Trade Deadline. Knuble scored 13 points in his final 14 games of the season, turning it on when his team needed him most.

Knuble had been acquired by the Capitals as a free agent in the summer of 2009.
