Karl Hobbs Let Go As George Washington Basketball Coach, According To Report

The D.C. area will end up losing yet another local coach. Just three days after Jim Larranaga left George Mason for Miami, George Washington coach Karl Hobbs has reportedly been let go, according to FOX Sports' Jeff Goodman.

George Washington coach Karl Hobbs has been let go, sources told GW had hired a new athletic director - former America East commish Patrick Nero - last week. He delivered news to Hobbs this afternoon.

Josh Barr of the Washington Post is reporting that it was Hobbs' decision to resign. Either way, Hobbs will no longer be the program's head coach.

Hobbs has been George Washington's head coach for the last 10 seasons, compiling a 166-129 record after taking over for Tom Penders. However, he has struggled to duplicate the success the program had from 2004-1007, when it made three straight NCAA Tournament appearances. George Washington improved to 17-14 last season after going 9-17 in 2008, 10-18 in 2009 and 16-15 in 2010, but was knocked out by St. Joseph's at home in the first round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament at home.

It remains unclear who might be in position to take the job now that Hobbs has departed.
