2011 Government Shutdown To Cancel Navy Sporting Events If It Happens

Who says that sports aren't affected by the impending government shutdown, which appears to be ... oh, about six hours away? Navy announced just now that all of its athletic events will be cancelled if the two sides cannot come to an agreement by midnight Friday.

↵↵All athletic events (varsity and club) at the Naval Academy will be cancelled if the government shuts down at midnight on Friday night. There will be no athletic competitions until the shutdown is over.

The most significant Navy event that would be cancelled if John Boehner, Harry Reid and the rest of the key players in this saga can't get their act together is a baseball series between Army and Navy. The two teams were slated to play doubleheaders Saturday and Sunday afternoon, and those games would be cancelled. Here is a complete list of Navy sporting events that would not happen if things do not dramatically change by midnight tonight.
