2011 NCAA Lacrosse Tournament: John's Hopkins Pulls Away From Hofstra, 12-5

The Johns Hopkins Blue Jays (13-2) dominated the second half of play in their 2011 NCAA Men's Lacrosse first-round contest against the Hofstra Pride (13-3). Despite getting on the board first and being tied 4-4 at the half, Hofstra was no match for John's Hopkins in the second half, allowing eight goals but mustering only one tally of their own. Hopkins improved to 5-0 against Hofstra in the post season, and the Blue Jays have now won 16 straight games in the postseason, a streak that began in 1992.

Kyle Wharton and Chris Boland led the way for John's Hopkins, as they have done all year. Wharton scored three goals and added an assist, giving him 23 points in his last seven games. Boland had three assists to go along with two goals scored. Pierce Bassett was impressive in goal for the Blue Jays, stopping several point-blank Hofstra scoring opportunities throughout the game.

Hopkins continues their quest for men's lacrosse championship #10 next Saturday when they face the winner of the Denver/Villanova game. It would be nice symmetry for this John's Hopkins club to start a championship run at Homewood Field in Baltimore and finish that run back in Baltimore at M&T Bank (the home of the 2011 NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship Game).
