Preakness Stakes 2011 Contenders: Dance City

The 2011 Preakness Stakes will be held on Saturday and we're looking at some of the contenders. Next up is Dance City. Here is a quick note on his chances from a profile at SB Nation.

Dance City is one of the new guns in the Preakness Stakes and he should serve a purpose at Pimlico on Saturday. At 12-1 odds, Dance City can't be overlooked, though he does lag behind Animal Kingdom, Dialed In and the other Kentucky Derby holdovers in the eyes of the oddsmakers. But if there's a new horse that could challenge Animal Kingdom in the second leg of the Triple Crown, it could be Dance City.

If you're one of those people that likes to pick their ponies based on who they are and where they come from, And Down The Stretch They Come has a pretty in depth look at Dance City's pedigree.

The offspring of Dance City's sire, City Zip, sport an average winning distance of 6.4 furlongs.  Damsire Pleasant Colony wins at a robust average of 8.4 furlongs.  Both City Zip and Pleasant Colony produce above average winners on off-tracks. Dance City's dam, Ballet Colony won three races during her career, all at a mile or a mile and 70 yards.  She has produced seven foals, including Dance City, none of which have won a race over a mile and a sixteenth.
