Shackleford is the winner of the 136th Preakness Stakes from Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. Shackleford led the entire race, and held off Animal Kingdom, who made a hard charge late that finished just short. Animal Kingdom finished second and placed, while Astrology finished third and showed.
Animal Kingdom the winner of the 2011 Kentucky Derby, finished second. meaning there will be no Triple Crown winner for the 33rd consecutive year. Animal Kingdom was a favorite coming into the race, but his favorite status was dropping even in the minutes before the race. The horse fell way behind at the start and simply could not recover.
