Shackleford is the winner of the 2011 Preakness Stakes on Saturday, making whoever bet on Shackleford very happy. Shakleford went off at 12/1 odds to hold off Animal Kingdom by half a length to win. Animal Kingdom tried the same strategy it did at the Kentucky Derby, charging from the back and trying to steal it at the end. This time, though, the shorter distance of the race was enough for Shackleford to hold on. It's pretty safe to reason that if Animal Kingdom had an extra quarter of a mile, it would have won.
