Bruce Boudreau Slammed For Putting Alex Ovechkin In The Penalty Box

The Capitals incurred a rare "too many men on the ice" penalty which cost them a goal in Game 3, which obviously could have been very important because they lost by only one goal. But what has become the more controversial aspect of that penalty is what followed, namely coach Bruce Boudreau selecting Alex Ovechkin to serve the penalty minutes. In the event of such a penalty, the coach can choose who he wants to send to the box, and Bruce chose his best player.

During their telecast on Versus, the commentators, ummm, disagreed with that choice, via Stephen Whyno of the Washington Times.

“It’s a completely brain cramp by Bruce Boudreau,” (Keith) Jones said. “The opportunity to have Ovechkin on the ice for a minute, 25 seconds of four-on-four and you put him in the penalty box so that the slight opportunity that he jumps out of the penalty box and gets a breakaway is just amazing that he did that. Guy Boucher is outcoaching Bruce Boudreau so badly right now it’s sick.”

Do you think he meant sick like the kids use it these days? Or is Boudreau's coaching literally making him sick to his stomach. Either way, that decision might have cost the Capitals, and now they face a 3-0 series deficit. I think I'm getting sick now.
