Animal Kingdom has won the 2011 Kentucky Derby. The longshot, who entered with just 20/1 odds to win the race, has won the 137th Kentucky Derby, racing past Nehro, Mucho Macho Man and Shackleford on the outside to win by several lengths.
Animal Kingdom goes down in the record books as the 137th Kentucky Derby champion, and assumes the title from 2010 champion Super Saver. John Velazquez is the winning jockey, taking his first-ever Kentucky Derby in this win.
Pre-race favorite Dialed In never got off to the right foot and was near the back of the pack. Second-place favorite Pants On Fire was always near the lead, but never got to the very top.
