2011 NCAA Lacrosse Tournament: Maryland Women's Team Earns Top Overall Seed

The University of Maryland Women's Lacrosse team has been the undisputed No. 1 team in the Country for the entirety of the Lacrosse season, and as a result, they earned the top overall seed in the 2011 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament. They won the National Title last year, and will face Navy in the first round on Saturday.

The matchup is particularly juicy because Navy is coached by Cindy Timchal, who led Maryland to 16 NCAA Tournament appearances and eight National Titles during her time in College Park. Although one would have to assume that her return to the University of Maryland as an opposing coach won't be nearly as pleasant. But according to the American Chronicle, Timchal is pretty excited about that matchup.

"It's great," Timchal said of the draw. "I'm excited about going there and playing the best. I think that's what it's really about. It's a great opportunity for Navy women's lacrosse. We knew sooner or later we would be playing Maryland."

We'll be covering the 2011 NCAA Lacrosse Tournament, both for the Maryland Men and Women, in this StoryStream. For more on the Terps, check out our Maryland blog Testudo Times.
