Washington Capitals Sign Mattias Sjögre To Two-Year Contract

The Washington Capitals have signed Mattias Sjögren, a Sweedish center and right winger, to a two-year contract, the team confirmed on Wednesday. Via Stephen Whyno of the Washington Times:

The Caps signed Swedish forward Mattias Sjogren, the team confirmed Wednesday morning. He's an aggressive, physical player, according to scouting reports but also has a scoring touch. The 6-foot-1, 201-pound Sjogren, 23, had seven goals and 17 assists in 51 games for Farjestads BK Karlstad of the Swedish Elite League last season

The news was first reported by two Sweedish newspapers on Tuesday night. The contract was reported to be two years and $1.8 million dollars, which is the maximum amount for a rookie. One of the Sweedish newspapers reported that 12 NHL teams were interested in him and that the Capitals had been tracking him for the last several months.

It's not clear where he will fit in with the Capitals as of right now.
