CONCACAF Gold Cup 2011: Players Preview USA Vs. Jamaica Quarterfinal Match

The United States had their most intensive training session of the week early today leading up to their quarterfinal match against Jamaica in the CONCACAF Gold Cup. The two teams will meet at 3:00 at RFK Stadium on Sunday.

The U.S. surprised many by failing to finish in first place in their group in the opening round of the tournament. They finished second due to a 2-1 loss to Panama last week. Although defender Steve Cherundolo noted that it "wasn't a lot of difference between finishing first or second in that group," the Americans were clearly disappointed with their results so far.

U.S. team captain Carlos Bocanegra mentioned the Jamaicans' athleticism and speed, noting also that the team is "full of confidence" after finishing atop their group in the first round. He gave a brief preview of how the Americans will try to counterbalance those strengths.

Hopefully we can spread them out, keep the ball, and finish our chances.

Jozy Altidore also noted that it will be "important that you start well" against a team like Jamaica.
