Rory McIlroy polished off a historic victory in the 2011 U.S. Open on Sunday at Congressional Country Club, and his first thought after he finished was to find his dad and say "Happy Father's Day" to him. His father loomed throughout the tournament, sneaking around among spectators and trying desperately to see his son finish off his incredible victory. Eventually, it all worked out.
McIlroy tapped in his final putt of the tournament on 18, and then it began. First, the formalities: shaking playing partner Y.E. Yang's hand, hugging his caddy, motioning to the crowd, celebrating, etc. Then, though, McIlroy got a free moment, and the first man he looked to find was wearing a bright green shirt. Father and son then embraced in a moment befitting for this day.
Not to take anything away from any other father who surely had a special day, but it's hard to top the present McIlroy's father received.
