Tiger Woods Congratulates Rory McIlory On 2011 U.S. Open Victory

With the way Rory McIlroy played at the the 2011 U.S. Open, hardly anyone remembered that the tournament was missing perhaps the tour's biggest presence. Tiger Woods was not in attendance at COngressional this week, but he did offer some congratulations to young Mr. McIlroy, via Jason Sobel. ↵ ↵

Just received comment from Tiger Woods on the result: "Congrats to Rory. What a performance from start to finish. Enjoy the win. Well done."less than a minute ago via web Favorite Retweet Reply

And one would have to assume that is some welcome congratulations, because Woods is someone that McIlroy admired. According to John Keim of the Washington Examiner, Woods is someone whom McIlroy tried to copy with the way he held his lead.

"I tried to emulate him," McIlroy said of the way Woods dominated.

↵Looked pretty similar to me. McIlroy got the lead, and he built on it. I don't think any other player thought they were going out on Sunday with a chance to win the tournament. That's how Tiger used to do it too.
