College World Series 2011 Bracket Update: South Carolina Takes 1-0 Lead With Extra Innings Win

The first game of the 2011 College World Series finals was on Monday, and it featured two SEC schools in the Florida Gators and the South Carolina Gamecocks. It perfectly epitomized all of the excitement that is usually associate with this tournament.

The game went to the top of the eleventh tied 1-1, and then an absolutely crazy series of events allowed the winning run to score. Christian Walker, on first base at the time, tried to steal second. It elicited a poor throw from the Florida catcher, which allowed Walker to head over to third base. The center fielder tried to throw him out at third, but his throw too went begging, and Walker scampered home for what would prove to be the go ahead run. You don't see a lot of game, if any, that end this way. Tough way for the Gators to lose, and I'm not sure that they'll be able to bounce back with such a short series.

They finals continue tonight with at 8 on ESPN.

You can follow the conclusion of the tournament in this thread, or you can head over to the stream at SB Nation for more. Also, be sure to check out our Florida blog Alligator Army and our South Carolina blog Garnet and Black Attack.
