NCAA Baseball Tournament 2011: Virginia Downs Navy, 6-0, In Regional Opener

The top-seeded Virginia Cavaliers had little trouble against Navy in their first NCAA Baseball Tournament regional game. Virginia, who entered the tournament as the No. 1 overall seed, rode two early runs and a dominating performance from pitcher Will Roberts to an easy 6-0 win on Friday afternoon.

Roberts went the entire game, striking out 14 in a complete-game shutout to improve his record to 11-1 on the season. Virginia provided more than enough offense in the bottom of the first inning, when Danny Hultzen ripped a two-out triple to score two runners. Virginia tacked on two runs in the third and runs in the fifth and seventh innings to provide the final margins.

Virginia improved to 50-9 on the year and will face the winner of the game between East Carolina and St. John's on Saturday at 6 p.m. Navy dropped to 33-24 and will face the loser in an elimination game at 1 p.m.
