Kenny Tate is going to be on a lot of preseason college football award watch lists after having a fantastic junior season for the Maryland Terrapins. He already made the watch list for the Bednarik Award, which goes to the best defensive player in the country. Now, he's also made the watch list for the Jim Thorpe Award, given annually to the nation's best defensive back.
↵Tate is one of 37 names on the list and one of seven from the ACC. The other ACC players include Miami's Ray Ray Armstrong, Boston College's Donnie Fletcher, Virginia Tech's Jayron Hosley, Virginia's Chase Minnifield and Florida State's Greg Reid and Xavier Rhodes.
↵The only issue is that the Terps have been talking about using Tate at linebacker for large portions of the season to take advantage of his size in the running game. Will he still even be eligible for the Thorpe Award if that happens?
