Much to my disbelief, the new head basketball coach at Maryland, Mark Turgeon, makes more money than anyone in the Atlantic Coast Conference not named Mike Krzyzewski. Via Terps Insider:
Hired away from Texas A&M in May, Terrapins men's basketball coach Mark Turgeon will make $1.9 million per year, which ranks him second to Duke's Mike Krzyzewski ($4.19 million) in annual guaranteed compensation among ACC men's basketball coaches.
A few things that jump out here, starting with, COACH K MAKES HOW MUCH??? No, seriously, I had no idea Duke's head man made over four million dollars a year. Another thing, was the salary of Wake Forest coach Jeff Bzdelik's sucked into some kind of vortex? It can't be found? The final item of course is Roy Williams probably needs a new agent. In fact, I should email this to Roy and ask him if he knew what Turgeon was making, and if he wants new representation.
In case you were curious, Turgeon's football counterpart, Randy Edsall, is slightly lower on the ACC salary totem pole:
Randy Edsall, who took over the Terrapins' football program in January, will be paid $2 million annually, which ties him for the fifth-highest annual salary among ACC football coaches.
