Vinny Cerrato doesn't have the most glowing reputation when it came to bringing cost effective talent to the Redskins roster. But today we hear a story about a time when he got very, very close. And let's face it, that's pretty good for him. Adam Teicher of Red Zone reports that the Chiefs nearly traded Jamaal Charles to the Redskins when he was the fourth running back on the Chiefs' depth chart.
↵↵↵(Cerrato) said that shortly after Scott Pioli and Todd Haley joined the Chiefs in 2009, he called and offered a fourth-round pick for Jamaal Charles.. . .Cerrato said the Chiefs countered by asking for a third-round choice. Washington refused and trade talks died.

Charles has since evolved into one of the best running backs in the game, and the type of game breaking talent that the Redskins desperately need. This one would have been nice. But of course, if they had made that trade, there would have been a huge outcry that Cerrato had traded a mid-round pick for an unproven player. Sometimes, you just can't win in this town.
