Diamondbacks Vs. Nationals Score: Beard Happens As Jayson Werth Helps Nationals Gain 4-1 Lead

The Washington Nationals have jumped out to a 4-1 lead on the seemingly hapless Arizona Diamondbacks who seem unable to fully solve Nationals southpaw Ross Detwiler. If Monday night's game belongs to anyone, it is the players with unique hair and if there is anything to be learned, it is: beard happens.

Outfielders Jonny Gomes and Jayson Werth have provided the Nationals scoring. With a mohawk under his batting helmet, Gomes put the Nationals ahead 1-0 in the second inning by hitting a RBI single to bring in Werth who had doubled earlier in the inning. Werth then put more hurt on the Snakes with a three-run bomb in the fourth inning. Werth is 2-for-3 on Monday night

Detwiler's only mistake came in the top of the seventh when he gave up a solo home run to Arizona's Henry Blanco. He went six innings giving up one run on six hits, walking one and striking out three before being relieved by Henry Rodriguez. It can be counted as yet another strong outing from the Nationals 2007 First Round Draft Pick.
